Trigonometric functions are periodic â they repeat the same pattern. The general form y = A sin(Bx + C) + D has:
- Amplitude |A| â height of the wave above/below the midline
- Period 2Ī/B â length of one complete cycle
- Phase shift -C/B â horizontal shift left or right
- Vertical shift D â moves the entire wave up or down
cos(x) = sin(x + Ī/2) â cosine is just sine shifted left by 90°. Tangent has vertical asymptotes at x = Ī/2 + nĪ where the function is undefined.
Trig graphs are tested on SAT Math 2, JEE Main(trigonometry chapter, amplitude and period), and CBSE Class 11(Chapter 3: Trigonometric Functions).
