GMAT preparation — FAQs
How do I prepare for the GMAT in 60 days?+
A compressed 60-day GMAT study plan works for applicants who already have strong Quant (typical for engineers) or strong Verbal (typical for humanities backgrounds). The plan: 3 weeks on your weaker section, 2 weeks on balanced practice, 3 weeks of timed mocks. Move cards from 'To Study' → 'Practice' → 'Mocks' accordingly.
GMAT vs GRE — which should I take for MBA?+
Most top business schools accept both. GMAT historically signals 'MBA-focused' intent; GRE is more general (useful if you're also considering non-MBA grad programs). Check your target schools' admit data — some still prefer GMAT. If unsure, take the GMAT. This planner works for both; just rename topic cards to match your chosen test.
What is the GMAT Focus Edition?+
The GMAT Focus Edition (launched late 2023) is the current version of the GMAT. Shorter than the old GMAT (2h 15m vs 3h), no AWA, tests Quantitative, Verbal, and Data Insights. If you're building a GMAT study plan today, build it for Focus Edition — that's what you'll sit.
Free GMAT prep resources worth using?+
GMAT Official Starter Kit (free practice test from mba.com), Manhattan Prep free trials, Magoosh blog articles. These are enough to build a competitive prep plan when paired with this free GMAT study planner and the Official Guide book (one-time purchase, not a subscription).
How many practice tests should I take for the GMAT?+
Minimum 4: one baseline at the start, two during prep to measure progress, one in the final week. The official GMAT Focus practice tests from mba.com are the most predictive. Add each as a card in your plan — treat them as non-negotiable checkpoints.
